Welcome to Bears of the Old Pueblo!

About The Bears

The Bears of the Old Pueblo is a social organization for gay and bisexual men who are ‘bearish’ and those who admire them. So what is a bear? It’s partly attitude, but some physical characteristics often associated with bears are facial hair, body hair, and generally larger, stocky, or more robust males. The best explanation is that bears have a ‘cuddly demeanor followed by a cuddly body.’ Those who like bears are warmly accepted by other bears. So if you like bears, you’re a bear too! Bears are often distinguished by a relaxed, accepting nature, and quick to hug in greetings and other gregarious encounters.

The Bears of the Old Pueblo exists to provide social opportunities for bears and their guests in Southern Arizona. Club events and outings are planned by the membership to meet the interests of all members through the scheduling of diverse activities, sometimes in conjunction with other bear groups.

The Bears of the Old Pueblo has no political agenda, but does support local charitable activities. The club participates in Tucson’s annual OUToberfest and Pride festivities with its gay brothers and sisters. The privacy and dignity of club members are always respected.

The Bears of the Old Pueblo has annually elected officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member-at-Large. Nominations are accepted from all members. Members present at the February general meeting may vote in the election. From time to time, other members are needed for special duties to chair or coordinate club events.

Bearish Things To Do

Monthly meetings and potlucks held on the second Friday of each month at 6:30pm at the Ward 6 Offices for the City of Tucson (3202 E. 1st Street). As with all events, visitors are always encouraged to attend. It’s a great way to meet and greet the other members!

Monthly Beer Bust held on the third Saturday of each month from 4 to 7 pm this socializing and fundraising event at Woody’s Bar gives folks a chance to shoot pool, throw darts, and give back to the community. This is the home bar for the club and it’s located at 3710 N. Oracle. Call 520-292-6702 for information on other bar events.

Bears love to play, and the club offers many opportunities. Weekly coffee gatherings, movie nights, pot lucks, pool parties, BBQs, hikes, trips to unique Southwestern sites, camping excursions, dinners-out, tubing on the Salt River, the annual Tucson and Phoenix pride festivities and numerous other activities are planned and attended by the club members.

Events are listed in the club newsletter, and updates are posted on the club’s InfoLine 24 hours a day at: 520-790-5775 or on the club webpage and our Yahoo Group.
